The short answer
The Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants are a sensible mid-range pick if you want ultralight, fast-drying training pants with real stretch and zip pockets. The trade-off is warmth and feel: thin woven polyester blocks little cold and will never feel like cotton, so buy them for the gym, cool-weather runs and travel, not for lounging or winter.

The Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants are ultralight, 100% polyester training pants for people who run warm and dislike the heavy, clingy feel of fleece joggers. This Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants review explains what the woven fabric, four-way stretch, mesh vents and zip pockets mean in practice, how to choose a size from Under Armour's own chart, and how to wash them so they keep doing their job.
Our editor Ivan bought a pair in 2021 with his own money. His personal notes on them are being collected separately and will appear in their own box on this page, so everything below is based on the current listing, Under Armour's published specs and size chart, and what is well established about woven polyester fabrics.
The short answer: if you want a light, fast-drying pant for the gym, cool-weather runs, warm-ups and travel, the Vanish Woven is a sensible mid-range choice from a brand with a clear size chart. If you want warmth, a cotton feel or a jogger to lounge in all weekend, it is the wrong tool.
Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants at a glance
Vanish is Under Armour's family of lightweight training pieces, and these woven pants are one of several full-length styles in it. The listing describes them in a handful of phrases, and each one carries a real consequence for how the pants behave. The table below translates them.
| Listing feature | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| 100% polyester, ultralight woven | Thin, smooth fabric that dries fast and blocks little cold |
| 4-way stretch | Fabric gives both across and along the leg, so deep squats and lunges are not restricted |
| Mesh vent panels | Extra airflow where heat builds up; the listing does not say exactly where the panels sit |
| Quick-dry | Sweat spreads and evaporates instead of soaking in; not the same as water resistance |
| Elastic back, flat front waistband | A cleaner front than a full elastic jogger waist, with stretch at the back where you need it |
| Zip pockets | Phone, keys or a card stay put on a treadmill, bike or bench |
One thing the listing does not give is an inseam. Under Armour's own current version, sold on its site as the UA Vanish Training Pants, lists a 30.5 in (77.5 cm) inseam for all regular sizes, and the brand's chart adds about 2 in (5 cm) for Tall sizes. Treat those as a strong hint rather than a guarantee for the exact Amazon variant, because Under Armour updates the Vanish line regularly.
The fabric: what ultralight woven polyester actually does
The fabric is the whole point of these pants, so it is worth understanding properly before you buy.
Woven versus knit
Most joggers and sweatpants are knits: the yarn is looped, like a T-shirt or a hoodie, which makes the fabric soft, drapey and naturally stretchy, and fleece versions trap air for warmth. A woven fabric interlaces yarns at right angles, like a dress shirt, a pair of chinos or a windbreaker. Wovens are flatter, smoother and more stable. They hold their shape, shed lint and pet hair, and do not pill as easily as brushed fleece.
The trade-off is that a plain woven has little natural stretch and can feel a bit crisp against the skin. A thin woven also makes a soft swishing sound when the legs brush together, which some people never notice and others find annoying. If you have owned a light track pant or hiking pant, you already know the general feel.
Four-way stretch in 100% polyester
Under Armour lists the fabric as 100% polyester with four-way stretch. There is no spandex in that composition, which tells you the stretch is mechanical: it comes from textured or crimped polyester yarns and the way the cloth is woven, not from an elastic fiber. Mechanical stretch is common in lightweight training and travel pants.
In practice, mechanical stretch tends to feel a little less springy than a spandex blend, and it may not snap back quite as fast after a deep squat. On the plus side, it is not weakened by heat the way spandex is, so it is more forgiving if the pants end up in a warm dryer. For training, the useful part is simple: the fabric gives in both directions, so a full-depth squat, a lunge or a high step onto a box does not fight you at the knee or seat.
Quick-dry and breathability
Polyester absorbs very little water into the fiber itself. Sweat sits on and between the fibers, spreads out, and evaporates. That is why polyester training clothes feel less soggy than cotton after a hard session and why Under Armour stresses fast drying in its Vanish descriptions. A thin weave helps further, because there is less fabric to hold moisture in the first place.
Quick-dry is not the same as water resistant. The listing makes no claim about a water-repellent finish, so do not expect these pants to keep you dry in steady rain. They will get wet, and then dry quickly once the rain stops.
Odor
Polyester has a known weakness: it tends to hold body odor more than cotton. A 2014 study from Ghent University, published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, found that polyester shirts collected after a spinning class smelled more intense and less pleasant than cotton ones, and that certain odor-causing bacteria (micrococci) grew mainly on the synthetic fabric.
Under Armour's own page for the current Vanish Training Pants mentions odor-control technology; the Amazon listing we checked does not. Either way, the practical answer is the same: wash them after sweaty sessions instead of letting them sit in a bag. We cover the polyester odor question in more depth in our COOFANDY gym tank top review.
Mesh vents, waistband and zip pockets
The construction details are where training pants either earn their keep or end up in the back of the drawer.
Mesh vent panels
The listing mentions mesh vent panels but does not say exactly where they are. On training pants, vents usually sit where heat and sweat build up, such as behind the knees or around the crotch and inner thigh. Mesh trades durability for airflow: it is more open than the main fabric, so it moves more air but is also more prone to snags. Check the product photos for the variant you are buying if vent placement matters to you, for example if you plan to kneel on rough ground.
Elastic back, flat front waistband
The listing describes an elastic back with a flat front. This is a halfway house between a pull-on jogger and a pair of chinos. The flat front looks cleaner under a T-shirt and does not bunch up the way a fully elasticated waist can, while the elastic back gives you room to bend and squat.
Under Armour's current Vanish Training Pants use a half-back exposed elastic waistband with an internal drawcord at the front. The Amazon listing does not mention a drawcord, so if you rely on one to cinch the pants on heavy runs, look at the photos of your chosen color before ordering.
Zip pockets
Zippered pockets are one of the most practical features on a training pant. Open pockets dump phones and keys on a treadmill belt, a rowing machine or a weight bench; zipped pockets do not. The listing confirms zip pockets but not their exact number or size, and Under Armour's current version on its own site lists open hand pockets instead, which is another sign that the details have shifted between generations. A retailer listing for the Vanish Woven Tapered Pants also describes zippered hand pockets alongside mesh ventilation panels and ankle zips; the Amazon listing does not mention ankle zips, so do not count on them.
A note on phones: a large phone in a pocket of thin, stretchy fabric will swing as you run. That is physics, not a defect. If it bothers you, put the phone in an armband or a running belt and keep the pocket for keys and a card.
Under Armour Vanish pants sizing and fit
Under Armour publishes a men's bottoms chart based on body measurements. Measure around your natural waist without pulling the tape tight, then around the fullest part of your hips with your feet about shoulder-width apart, and match both numbers to the chart.
| UA size | US waist size | Body waist, in (cm) | Body hips, in (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 28 | 28 to 29 (71 to 74) | 33 to 34 (84 to 86) |
| SM | 30 | 29 to 31 (74 to 79) | 34 to 36 (86 to 91) |
| MD | 32 to 33 | 31 to 34 (79 to 86) | 36 to 39 (91 to 99) |
| LG | 34 to 36 | 34 to 37 (86 to 94) | 39 to 42 (99 to 107) |
| XL | 38 to 40 | 37 to 41 (94 to 104) | 42 to 46 (107 to 117) |
| XXL | 42 to 44 | 41 to 45.5 (104 to 116) | 46 to 50 (117 to 127) |
| 3XL | 46 to 48 | 45.5 to 50 (116 to 127) | 50 to 54 (127 to 137) |
The chart continues to 4XL and 5XL. A few practical points:
- Fit category. Under Armour labels its current Vanish Training Pants as Fitted, which on UA's scale sits between Tight and Regular: close to the body without squeezing. Expect a trim, tapered look rather than a baggy track pant.
- Between sizes. If your waist points to one size and your hips or thighs to the next, go by the larger measurement. Thin woven fabric has less give than a fleece knit, and a tight seat is more noticeable than a slightly loose waist you can cinch.
- Length. If you are tall, check whether the color you want comes in Tall sizes, which Under Armour lists as about 2 in (5 cm) longer than Regular. A training pant that ends above the ankle bone looks odd and lets cold air in on runs.
- Footwear. A trim cuff sits best over low-profile trainers. If you pair the pants with minimalist shoes such as the ones in our WHITIN barefoot shoes review, a slim leg keeps the hem from dragging.
What the Vanish Woven Pants are good for, and what they are not
Reading the spec sheet as a whole, these pants are built around three jobs, and they are weaker at a few others.
Good fits
- Gym training. Stretch, light weight and zip pockets cover most of what a gym pant needs. They are a good choice when shorts feel too exposed or the gym is cold in winter mornings.
- Cool-weather running and warm-ups. On a cool morning, a thin woven layer cuts some wind while letting heat escape through the mesh. For a long run in properly cold conditions you would want tights underneath or a warmer pant.
- Travel. Light woven polyester packs small, resists wrinkles better than cotton and dries quickly after a sink wash, which makes it useful on trips where laundry is limited. Pair them with a set of packing cubes like the ones in our BAGAIL packing cubes review and a pair rolls into very little space.
Weak spots
- Warmth. Thin woven polyester has almost no loft, so it insulates very little. Do not buy these as winter pants.
- Rain. No water-repellent finish is claimed. Quick-dry helps after the fact; it does not keep water out.
- Heavy pulling from the floor. In a deadlift or clean, the bar travels close to the shins and thighs. Knurling can catch and pull the threads of a thin woven fabric. Many lifters wear shorts with long socks for heavy pulls for exactly this reason.
- Lounging. If you want a pant that feels like a hoodie for your legs, a brushed fleece jogger will be more comfortable on the couch.
How to wash and care for Vanish Woven Pants
The garment label is the final authority, and it can differ between versions. Polyester performance fabrics share a few common-sense rules that help them last and keep wicking properly.
- Empty and zip the pockets. Open zippers can scrape other clothes, and loose keys or coins can damage the drum and the fabric.
- Turn the pants inside out. This protects the outer face and any logos from abrasion.
- Wash cold or warm, not hot. Polyester does not need hot water to get clean, and high heat is harder on the fabric and on printed logos.
- Skip fabric softener. Softener leaves a coating on the fibers that can reduce how well the fabric spreads and releases moisture. Dryer sheets have the same effect.
- Keep them away from hook-and-loop. Velcro tabs on other garments, such as the waist adjuster on our Helikon-Tex UTS shorts, can pill or snag thin woven fabric. Close the hook-and-loop or wash those items separately.
- Dry low or hang dry. Thin polyester dries quickly on a hanger. If you use a dryer, the lowest heat setting is enough.
- No ironing at high heat. Polyester can glaze or melt under a hot iron. Wrinkles usually fall out after hanging.
For odor, washing soon after training matters more than any special product. If a sweaty pair sits in a closed bag overnight, bacteria have time to settle in.
Under Armour Vanish Woven vs other training pants
We compared these pants with alternatives on paper, by published specs and construction, not side by side.
| Option | Fabric type | Strengths | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| UA Vanish Woven Pants | Ultralight woven polyester, mechanical stretch | Fast drying, airy, zip pockets, clear size chart | Little warmth, synthetic feel |
| Fleece joggers (for example UA Rival Fleece or similar) | Knit fleece, usually cotton-polyester | Soft, warm, comfortable for lounging | Hold sweat, slower to dry, lint and pilling |
| Nike Dri-FIT woven training pants | Woven polyester-based performance fabric | Similar job, wide availability | Pocket and fit details vary by model |
| lululemon ABC style pants | Woven stretch fabric aimed at all-day wear | Look closer to chinos for commuting | Sit in a higher price tier, less of a pure gym pant |
| Helikon-Tex UTS shorts | Polycotton ripstop with elastane | Tough, ten pockets, everyday carry | Shorts, heavier fabric, not a training garment |
Vanish Woven vs fleece joggers
The core difference is moisture and temperature. Fleece joggers are warmer and softer and look more casual, but cotton-rich fleece absorbs sweat and stays damp. The Vanish Woven is the opposite: cool, quick-drying and a little technical in feel. Many people own one of each and pick by weather and activity.
Vanish Woven vs Nike and lululemon
Nike's Dri-FIT woven training pants are the closest direct rival in concept: polyester-based performance wovens with tapered legs. Which one fits you better depends on the specific model, because both brands rotate pocket designs and cuffs every few seasons. lululemon's ABC-style pants target a different buyer, someone who wants a pant that passes in an office or on a flight, and they sit in a higher price tier. If your priority is pure training at a mid-range price, the Vanish is the more focused choice.
Pairing with other gear we bought
The Vanish pants pair naturally with other training gear we bought. A quick-dry tank on top keeps the whole outfit synthetic and fast-drying.
For everyday wear rather than training, the HUGO ribbed T-shirt and the Helikon-Tex shorts are better matched. You can browse the whole category on our Style & Gym Wear hub.
Who should buy the Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants
- Gym-goers who want full-length pants without the heat. Light fabric, stretch and mesh vents are a strong combination for indoor training.
- People who run warm. If fleece joggers make you sweat within minutes, a thin woven is the logical swap.
- Cool-weather runners and walkers. On mornings that are cool rather than cold, they cut a little wind and keep your legs covered while still breathing.
- Light packers. Travelers who wash clothes in a hotel sink will appreciate how quickly polyester dries overnight.
- Anyone who hates losing keys. Zip pockets are a small detail that make a real difference on a treadmill or bike.
Who should skip them
- Winter athletes. If you train outdoors in real cold, you need insulation or a layering system, not a single thin woven.
- Cotton lovers. If synthetic fabric feels wrong to you, no amount of stretch will change that. A cotton-rich jogger will feel softer.
- Heavy deadlifters. Thin woven fabric and barbell knurling are not friends. Shorts and long socks are a better pairing for heavy pulls.
- Buyers who need precise inseam options. Under Armour offers Regular and Tall rather than a full set of inseam lengths, and the Amazon listing does not state the inseam at all.
- Anyone who wants rain protection. These are not rain pants. Look for a shell pant with a water-repellent finish.
Tips and common mistakes
- Measure, do not guess. Use a soft tape on your natural waist and hips and compare with Under Armour's chart. Your jeans size can mislead you, because jeans are often labeled with vanity sizing.
- Check the variant photos. Because Vanish details change between versions, confirm the pocket type, cuff style and vent placement in the photos of the exact color and size you choose.
- Do not judge warmth by the store photo. A dark color looks heavy in pictures; the fabric is still ultralight.
- Mind the phone. A heavy phone in a thin pocket will bounce on runs. Use the pockets for light items or carry the phone elsewhere.
- Keep softener out of the wash. It leaves a coating on the fibers that can make performance fabric feel clammy and slow to dry.
- Store them flat or folded. There is no need for hangers or ironing; polyester resists creasing well.
- Watch for snags. Velcro, rough benches and barbell knurling are the main threats to thin woven fabric. A pulled thread can usually be eased back with a needle from the inside rather than cut.
Final verdict
The Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants do one thing well: they give you full-length coverage with very little weight, plenty of stretch and fast drying. The specs line up for gym sessions, cool-weather runs, warm-ups and travel, and the zip pockets and flat-front waist are practical touches you will appreciate on a treadmill or bench. Under Armour's body-measurement chart, with Tall sizes, makes it easier than usual to order the right size the first time.
The limits are just as clear. Thin woven polyester insulates very little, keeps some synthetic feel and can snag on knurling and hook-and-loop. The listing also leaves out the inseam, and Under Armour changes pocket and cuff details between versions, so check the photos before you order. If those trade-offs suit you, this is a focused mid-range training pant. If you want warmth or softness, a fleece jogger will serve you better. Ivan bought this pair in 2021, and his own notes will appear on this page once they are ready.
Pros
- 100% polyester woven fabric that Under Armour says wicks sweat and dries very quickly
- Four-way stretch, so squats and lunges do not fight the fabric
- Mesh vent panels add airflow where heat builds up
- Zip pockets keep a phone or keys from falling out on a treadmill or bench
- Smooth woven face sheds lint and pet hair better than fleece
- Under Armour publishes a clear body-measurement size chart, including Tall sizes
Cons
- Very little insulation, so they feel cold on their own below cool fall temperatures
- Synthetic feel and some fabric noise compared with knit joggers
- The Amazon listing does not state an inseam; you have to rely on Under Armour's chart and photos
- Under Armour revises the Vanish line often, so pocket and cuff details vary by version
- Thin fabric is more vulnerable to snags from barbell knurling and hook-and-loop

Frequently asked questions
Are Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants good for running?
On paper they suit cool-weather running well: the fabric is light, stretchy and quick-drying, and the zip pockets keep keys secure. They are not insulated, so in real cold you would layer tights underneath or pick a heavier pant.
Do Under Armour Vanish pants run small or large?
Under Armour labels its current Vanish Training Pants as Fitted, which on its scale means close to the body without compression. Measure your natural waist and hips and match them to UA's men's bottoms chart; if you sit between sizes and want room over the thighs, the larger size is the safer pick.
Are Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants water resistant?
The listing does not claim any water resistance or DWR coating. Quick-dry means the fabric sheds absorbed moisture fast, not that it keeps rain out, so treat them as a dry-weather or light-drizzle pant and add a shell for real rain.
How do I wash Under Armour Vanish pants?
Follow the care label first. For polyester performance fabric the usual approach is a cold or warm machine wash inside out with pockets zipped, no fabric softener, no bleach, then a low-heat tumble or hang dry. Skipping softener matters because it coats fibers and can slow drying.
What is the difference between Vanish Woven and regular joggers?
Vanish Woven pants use a thin, smooth woven polyester that dries quickly and moves with you, while most joggers are knit fleece or jersey that feel softer and warmer but hold sweat longer. Wovens are the training and travel choice; fleece joggers are the comfort choice.
Do Vanish Woven Pants come in tall sizes?
Under Armour's men's bottoms chart lists Tall sizes as about 2 inches (5 cm) longer than Regular. Availability of Tall sizes varies by color and seller, so check the size selector on the listing before you order.
Should you buy the Under Armour Vanish Woven Pants?
